Love where you work

It really is so important to love where you work.  We spent a lot of time making sure our 2nd location represents our creativity and style.  Great videos & photos are all about how creative you can be and how you can showcase your client’s individual style.  It’s so nice when potential clients come to our office and get excited about the creativity they see.

The “stained glass” effect in this photo is created by old slides.  We used our old slides plus slides from our family to create this piece.  The slides were shot all over the world, in cool places such as Argentina, Scotland, Hawaii, Germany and Fiji.  The slides were hand-stitched together, one at a time…

If you’re interested in learning how to do this for your home or office, let us know and we’d be happy to help.

Creativity at 21c

During a video shoot for #KIA, we stayed at a ridiculously cool hotel called 21c Museum Hotel Louisville.  The hotel @21chotels is also a contemporary art museum.  There were surprises around every corner and it was such an educational experience for our little man.  The hotel is famous for their plastic red penguins, which greet you around every corner.  They even gave the little man temporary tattoos, so he had red penguins covering his face most of the time.  We are so lucky that we get to stay at unique hotels while traveling for various video & photo shoots!

Do you guys know of any unique hotels that we shouldn’t miss?!

Silhouette Photography

One of our favorite things about owning our own business is the freedom to travel with our kiddos.  Almost all of our trips are a mix of work & play.  We’re quite a spectacle with all of our photo & video gear plus luggage for a family of four.  I’m not a light packer either.

This photo was taken in #turksandcaicos in the #carribean.  The water was so warm that we were able to stay in the water and work on our sunset photography.  I am obsessed with this photo that Chris captured of our kids.

A couple tips for traveling with your kids:

  1. Be ready for the plane ride.  Try to board first, every airline has different rules but most will allow you to board early if you have little ones.  Before you board, know what you will keep below the seat and what you will put in the bin above your head.  Be sure you have everything you need in the bag below the seat.  There is nothing more frustrating than not having what you need when you need it, especially if your little one starts crying.  Be sure your little one drinks a bottle or with a straw as the plane is taking off; this helps with their ears.  Pack extra snacks, little surprises, new toys, books, etc.  The more organized I am, the easier the flight is.
  2. Make sure the hotel you’re staying at knows that you are traveling with kids.  Find a friendly contact at the hotel and ask for tips/ help.  Some hotels go above & beyond to make sure your kids have a blast.  We have had hotels surprise us with yummy treats, kid’s toys, guides for touring the city with kids, extra strollers, etc.

Endurance Camps

“We are not a team because we work together.  We are a team because we respect, trust and care for each other.”

Truer words were never spoken about our crew!  These guys love working together and they have fun while getting the job done.   We get so many compliments about our crew and are so lucky to have such great guys!

This photo was taken while capturing photo & video for @endurancecamps.  Endurance Camps is a really cool multi-sport camp for adults.  We captured their group running, swimming, hiking and biking in Big Bear, CA.   Lots of #gopro and #drone action!  Thank you to @jameswadams for such a great project!

Firework Photography

If you want to try to get some spectacular firework photos, here are a few quick tips to follow:

1st– We would recommend using a tripod and a DSLR.

2nd– Set your aperture to f/8 in manual mode and place your shutter speed in the ‘bulb’ setting.  Have your lens in its widest setting, preferably 24mm or less.  Experiment with your ISO between the 400- 800 range.  No flash is needed.  Note- this works best if you have a cable release to minimize any camera movement.

3rd– Hold down the cable release or button until you have several bursts that happen in front of your lens.

4th– Enjoy your image!

For those of you that will be shooting with an iPhone, don’t forget that you can hold down the “shoot” button for “rapid fire” photography.  This helps to ensure that you capture a great shot, event without a DSLR!
